“I know you miss this…” “I miss our music.” Focus Features has unveiled trailer #2 for the British musical titled The Ballad of Wallis Island, arriving in theaters this March in the US. This recently premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival to some of the most positive reviews from the festival, praising it for how charming it is: “feels like a warm hug.” The Ballad of Wallis Island follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on an island and dreams of getting his two favorite musicians, Mortimer-McGwyer (Carey Mulligan & Tom Basden) back together again. His fantasy turns into reality when the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island (for tons of money, of course). Old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig. The three of them star together on this beautiful island off the coast of Wales in this funny, sentimental musical comedy about how everything changes with time. This is a fun trailer showing the sweeter side of the film, along with some of the wonky humor. I caught this one at Sundance – it’s really good and I do recommend it.
