HBO Max has officially shared the first photo of Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) as the fan-favorite Rubeus Hagrid in the upcoming Harry Potter series. The character was previously played by the late Robbie Coltrane in all eight movies of Warner Bros. Pictures’ blockbuster franchise.
This comes after the streamer recently unveiled the first set photo of lead star Dominic McLaughlin as the newest Harry Potter, confirming that production on the highly anticipated TV adaptation has begun. The HBO original is expected to make its debut in 2027.

Besides Frost and McLaughlin, Harry Potter will also be led by newcomers Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The HBO adaptation is written and executive produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve, Succession), with Mark Mylod serving as its director. It will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series, featuring an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom. Executive producers are Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-time Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. It is a production by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
