There’s a shout-out to The Ebb in this one, for the OGs who might have savored the Thornwatch boardgame.
There’s a designer I really want to work with on new Eyrewood games, and when he was going over what he wanted to do mechanically he wanted to check in and make sure that he wasn’t ranging too far afield. But the Ebb itself was the result of what the first game needed to feel like the Judging Wood – a narrative/mechanic for players to contend with.
I told him that everything he’d told me was correct for the known Eyrewood, the things that have materialized in the vanishingly small windows we’ve opened into it. But essentially told him it would be okay to enter a Dangerous Forest in search of hard-won resources. Indeed, I suggested, it would be completely on-brand. I’m about to board the Everflight. If I never land, I had a lot of fun writing these for you.
